Appetizer: Hummamole

Hollie's Homemade Life

Hummamole

If you are looking for a healthy appetizer for an upcoming party, or something to just snack on at home, look no further. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you hummamole. What is hummamole you ask? Well, it's a mixture of hummus and guacamole of course! Hence the cool name!

Matt, my boyfriend, and I came up with this idea on a whim. He was making his famous guacamole one day and I had come in the kitchen to grab a snack. While sitting at the kitchen table eating hummus and chips, we started wondering what hummus and guacamole would taste like if they were mixed together. We decided that there was only one way to find out, so we made some. This dip didn't last a whole two days. I'm pretty sure I ate it with everything I could find in those two days. It was so yummy we decided it was something we would surely make again.

I'm going to break this recipe into two different portions. I will make the hummus portion first and then will make the guacamole. You will take both portions and mix them together making your hummamole.

Ingredients for the hummus portion:

2 cups of garbanzo beans (chickpeas), drained, liquid reserved

1/2 cup of tahini (sesame paste)

Juice from 2 squeezed lemons

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 tsp sea salt

2 tsp ground cumin

1/2 tsp ground paprika

3 -4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

5 tbsp of water or liquid from chickpeas

Hummus Ingredients

You will need to use your food processor's steel blade to make the hummus into a smooth consistency. Pour in the garbanzo beans and tahini and turn on the food processor for about 20 seconds or until smooth.

Next, add the garlic, cumin, sea salt, paprika and lemon juice. Mix together in the food processor.

Pour in the oil and water and mix well.

Once mixed, your hummus should look like the picture below.

Pour into a large mixing bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and set aside in refrigerator until you are finished making your guacamole.

Ingredients for the guacamole portion:

3 Large Haas avocados

1/4 cup onion, diced

1/4 cup Roma tomatoes, diced

1/4 cup cilantro leaves, chopped

1 jalapeno pepper, finely diced

1/2 tsp sea salt

juice from 1 lime

Guacamole Ingredients

Cut the three avocados in half lengthwise and twist until you have two halves in your hands. Remove the seed and spoon out the inside. Place the insides in a mixing bowl and mash until smooth.

Next, add the onion, tomato, jalapeno pepper, sea salt, cilantro and lime juice in. Mix together well.

Once you are done mixing your guacamole, add it to the hummus, and stir together. You now have hummamole!

Put the hummamole in the refrigerator for about a half hour to cool while your flavors blend. Serve with chips or you can even put a dollop in your salad.

I love the combination of flavors you get from both the hummus and guacamole. I found it to be pretty simple to make as well.

And what's better than having just hummus or guacamole when you can have both! Plus, the name is pretty fun to say too. Enjoy!
